Hervey Bay is one of the best places in Australia to spend your next holiday. There are many reasons for this. Firstly there is lots of new Hervey Bay accommodation which is mostly located on the Esplanade in well designed new resorts. These resorts have been developed through the recent real estate boom and are now very competitive on price. The second reason is that there is so much to see and do in the region. Fraser Island lies just offshore and Hervey Bay is the main jumping off point for tours to the island or transfers to the resorts on Fraser. Hervey Bay is also known as the whale watching capital of the world. Hervey bay whale watching started some 20 years ago and the increase in whale watching venues along the east coast of Australia is a direct result of the success of this pastime in Hervey Bay. Be aware though that Hervey Bay is the only place in the world where you can go whale watching in calm water and you will see many activities other than migratory swimming, which is all that you will see in other location. In the Bay, the whales have become accustomed to the boats and many of them are happy to swim up so close you can practically touch them.

Fraser Island is the world’s largest sand island and the only place in the world where rain forests grow in sand. It is also home to many pristine fresh water lakes where the waters are so pure you can drink them. The wildlife on Fraser Island is also unique and the island is home to the purest strains of dingo left in the country. There are many different types of tours to the island that are available from Hervey Bay. You can take a day tour or an extended tour with overnight accommodation in one of the islands resorts. There are no made roads on Fraser Island so all of the tours are conducted in four wheel drive vehicles.

If you are looking for a fresh new location for your next holiday, then why not consider Hervey Bay. Direct flights are available from both Sydney and Brisbane.
