Mundabbera is understood to be an aboriginal word for meeting place of waters. The Town is right on the Burnett river near its junction with the Boyne and the Auburn River.
Mundubbera is the self declared citrus capital of Queensland and is home to one of the largest orchards in Queensland, called the golden mile which contains seven orchards amounting to 1700ha or fruit plantations. They are in full production from April to September.
The nearby Auburn River National park offers camping with facilities. It is a fantastic destination and includes the junction of the Boyne and the Auburn river. They come together in an impressive array of huge boulders and rock formations.
Mundubbera was first settled in the 1840s when the Mundubbera station was established. Like most other stations in the region is was focussed entirely on sheep grazing which went on until cattle replaced sheep as the economic focus in the 1880's. The township of Mundubbera was established just before World War I with a hospital and Post office following in 1920-21. The citrus industry was established in 1892 with Henry Zipf starting to grow mandarins.
